:: About Calders
We're located in the ground floor of Dairy House on Poto St., Whangarei (click image for larger view) Chances are if you're in Northland and handed a business card, use a letterhead, glance at a calendar, flick through a brochure, read a manual or opened a directory - it was probably designed and/or printed by Calders Design and Print Company Limited in Whangarei. Competition is high in New Zealand's print industry. For a design and print company to survive and thrive against the opposition it's essential that today's product stands out from the crowd, say Calders management team of Leon Inder, Graeme Martyn, Garry Whitham and Chris Parry. Everything from client services to design and print quality needs to make an impact. On top of that, the finest technology can ensure that running off a single business document is as easy to manage as a print run of tens of thousands of units with a flawless product every time. :: 75 Years of ServiceCalders has its origins dating back to 1929, when the late Wallace Calder founded the company in Cameron Street premises. Except for a brief closure during the Second World War, the company has offered continuous service to Northlanders and relocated a number of times in that period. Allied Graphics and the Bay of Islands operation have its roots back to Kamo Print Ltd. In 1983, Kamo Print acquired the old established Northland printing company - Baigent Print Ltd - and formed Allied Graphics Ltd. In 1995 Calder Print Ltd., Allied Graphics Ltd., and Bay of Islands Colour Print merged to form CALDERS DESIGN & PRINT Co. Ltd. Since then, Calders Design and Print Company Limited has invested heavily to the capital tune of more than $2 million in order to satisfy growing market requirements. Their investment is paying off. They have achieved more than 50% growth since the merger, and the company is established as Northland's largest Graphic Design and Printing organisation. Today, Calders provides its clients full in-house Internet marketing, graphic design, and printing services (digital, large format poster printing, die-cutting and offset printing, bindery and finishing). 2003 has been a year of great technological and business advancement at Calders, rewarded by the securing and hence the return to Whangarei of major pre-press, design and print contracts that had - until now - been done by companies in other centres. An example is Destination Northland, a Northland-inspired product that has been printed out of the district for the past few years. Now able to compete for full colour contracts, Calders recently won that job and this year's run of 130,000 copies of Destination Northland is virtually hot off the press. This full colour capability is thanks to the recently acquired Heidelberg 5 colour A2 Offset Press. When added to Calders existing technological horsepower, it's easy to see why the locally owned Whangarei business is a force to be reckoned with in pre-press, design and print. Locally, Calders is known for producing quality work. Every year this reputation gains momentum, with some products including a Bi-monthly favourite - an A5 book for The NZ Motor Caravan Association Inc. - enjoying nationwide distribution. Calders is internationally competitive with respect to production costs, and being regionally based the company has proven contingencies in place to ensure delivery to deadlines - no matter what.
